Nubby-Scrubby Washcloth

Copyright 1998-1999  by Karen Gilson

This pattern makes a washcloth with one nubby side and one smooth side.

Hook size:  H

Yarn:  Worsted weight cotton such as Peaches N Creme or Sugar N Cream

Foundation row:  Chain 40 loosely.  You may want to use a hook one size larger for this chain only.  Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch across.  Ch 1 and turn.

Row 1:   This is the wrong side of the washcloth.  Sc in first stitch.  In next 37 stitches: sc, ch 3, insert hook in first chain above the sc, yo, and draw through both loops (nubble made).  Finish row with one sc.  Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2:  Sc across in each sc.  Be sure to insert hook just to the right and below each nubble and fold nubble down toward you as you work the stitch.  At the end of the row, make sure all nubbles are sticking out toward you.  Ch 1 and turn.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the cloth is square.  Finish off.

Edging: Attach yarn in any corner and chain 2.  Work  sc, 2 ch, 2 sc in same space.  Work sc evenly around the washcloth, placing (2 sc, 2 ch, 2sc) in each corner.  Attach yarn to beginning ch2 and finish off.  Weave in all ends.
