Granny's  Glitter  Christmas  Tree  Skirt

Supplies: Caron Christmas Glitter yarn in Green, White, and Red.  Amount will vary depending on your gauge.  Crochet Hook Size H.  You can substitute any worsted weight yarn and crochet hook that you prefer.  Gauge is not important on a project of this type, so use tools that are comfortable for you.

Hexagon Motif (make 60):

With Green:  Ch 4 and join to form ring.  Ch 3, 11 dc into ring, join to top of Ch3.   Ch 4, skip next st, (dc between stitches, ch 1) 11 times, join to 3rd ch of  Ch4, finish off.

With White:  Join in any Ch1 space, Ch 3, dc in same Ch1 space, Ch 2.   (2 dc in next Ch1 space, Ch 2) 11 times, join to top of Ch3, finish off.

With Red:  Join in any Ch2 space, Ch3, 2dc in same Ch2 space, Ch 2.   (3 dc in next Ch2 space, Ch3, 3 dc in next Ch2 space, Ch2) 5 times.   3 dc in next Ch2 space, Ch3, join to top of Ch3.   Slip stitch into back loop only of next 3 dc and into Ch space.  Ch3, 2 dc in  same Ch2 space, Ch1.  *(3 dc, Ch 2, 3 dc, Ch 1) in next Ch3 space, 3 dc, Ch1 in next Ch2 space.*   Repeat from * to * 5 times.  3 dc, Ch 2, 3 dc, Ch 1 in next Ch3 space, join to top of  Ch3, finish off.   Weave in all ends and trim.

Assembly:

Join 60 hexagons in hexagonal shape, omitting the center hexagon.  Holding right sides together, slip stitch with yarn needle through adjacent loops.  Make 2 strips each of 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 hexagons.  Lay strips out on floor to form large hexagon shape with empty center.  Join strips together per this layout, leaving one side open for wrapping around the tree.  Weave in all ends and trim.

Work border:

Row 1:  With White, join in any stitch on edge of skirt, Ch 3, dc in next stitch around.   Work points of hexagons as follows:  2 dc, Ch 2, 2dc in Ch space.   Work inner corners as follows:  work dc decrease across the two stitches adjoining each inner corner.  See below for description of double crochet decrease.   Continue around entire skirt, join to top of Ch3.

Row 2:  Ch 3, dc in next stitch around.   Work points of hexagons as follows:  1 dc, Ch 2, 1 dc in Ch space.  Work double crochet decrease on inner corners as in Row 1.  Continue around entire skirt, join to top of Ch3.  Finish off.

Row 3:  With Green, repeat Row 2.

Row 4:  Work reverse sc around entire skirt.   See below for description of reverse sc stitch.  Join in top of first reverse sc, finish off.   Weave in all ends and trim.

Double crochet decrease:

Yarn over hook, insert hook into first stitch, pull up loop, yo and pull through first 2 loops on hook, 1 loop on hook.

Yarn over hook, insert hook into next stitch, pull up loop, yo and pull through all 3 loops. 

Reverse sc stitch:

Insert hook in top of stitch to the right of the yarn, pull up loop, 2 loops on hook, yo and pull through both loops.  Continue working around to the right.
